Discount Model Trains
63Model trains are a bit costly, so getting one may be hard if you are experiencing low income nowadays. You might just want to save up for an expensive model train or you can buy discount model trains. Many people think that discount model trains are of lower quality than the regular priced ones. You can get discount model trains from train hobbyists like yourself. These people never had the time to finish up their trains. Then there are companies that are able to afford selling model trains at a discount. They can get their stock at wholesale prices from manufacturers and then they sell the trains to retailers at reduced prices without letting the quality of the product suffer from all the price reductions.
You can also buy discount model trains from online retailers. The cost of selling online is far cheaper than selling in a regular hobby store. There are no rental fees, utilities, or manpower costs to consider, which make it possible for online stores to peg lower selling prices for their model trains. Selling at a discount is also a way of being more competitive with other sellers online. Nevertheless, it is still a wise move to do a thorough research on what you are buying online, as well as compare prices among online retailers. There is always the possibility of getting a lower priced product with the same quality.
A garage sale is another interesting place where you can get a discount model train. You can never tell if you will have the good fortune of getting a swell bargain from someone who does not know the true worth of the train he is selling.
Here are some things you should determine when looking for discount model trains:
Find out the reason why the seller can afford to sell at a discounted price. Knowing why will let you know if the train being sold has some minor defects or damages that greatly reduced the value of the train.
Even if you managed to get a defective or less than perfect train, do not discard them right away. A fresh coat of paint and some minor repairs can do the trick of transforming the train and make it look like new. However, some people choose an easier way out by selling defective items at lower prices instead of taking the pains to refurbish them. As photos and videos are almost always included, you can easily determine which trains are still fit for use and still decent to be used as displays.

Hiya Alfred, this is very useful. I am not a collector nor do I own a train set. But I always enjoy watching them run in toy stores specially during Christmas time. I got my son a expensive train set when he was young but we never had the time to put it together in full because of space and my husband and I were too busy. I ended up giving it to charity.
Have a nice day,
Rosie
