Why Flea Bites are Dangerous

Flea bites are irritating and very unbearable. What’s worse is that the fleas do not stick to one animal. They have powerful legs and can jump from one animal host to another. Hence, the transfer of fluids from one animal to another is really alarming. This is where almost all complications from flea bites can come from. An animal or person that carries a disease that can be transmitted via bodily fluids may be bitten by fleas, and the fleas will then bite another person. Some fluids left over from the first host will eventually make its way to the new flea-bitten victim.

As with all other blood feeding parasites, fleas also carry the remnants of the previous victim’s blood in their bodies. Thus, when they feed again, they may transfer the fluid onto their new victim. This is why flea bites are very serious. Once you get bitten, you may get a nasty infection from the itching and swelling flea bite. Flea bites are both irritating and painful. This is enough reason for you to start addressing a flea infestation as soon as you find out there is one, as you risk your household acquiring disease or nasty sores from the flea bites.

Flea bites are problems that have been addressed even by inventors and scientists in order to develop new ways of exterminating fleas. One such product is the flea bomb. It works by releasing chemicals that are toxic to fleas in a sealed room where there is a flea infestation. Make sure that the room is completely sealed (including the ventilation shafts) as the chemicals are also toxic to humans.

You can easily recognize a flea bite when you see one. Fleas tend to change their position while feeding. A common pattern on flea bites looks like a line. The flea bites will also be red and itchy. This is because of the flea’s special saliva. Fleas are able to bit through the skin and suck blood without the blood coagulating or solidifying while it feeds. If your flea bites cause adverse reactions like fever, you should immediately contact your doctor.

Flea bites can be the entry point of diseases or infections. A regular bite will be able to heal on its own in a span of two weeks. However, if a bite does not go away within two weeks or if it shows other symptoms, you need to see a doctor immediately. Otherwise, just keep the wounds clean and sterile and you’ll be just fine.

If a flea infestation is confirmed in your home, exterminate them right away. This way you will run a lower risk of getting diseases and infections from the flea bites.
